“We” is Linda Newton and Roxy Thacker. Thanks to the kindness and generosity of Linda, Roxy has a new smile from Synergy Periodontics & Implants in Fredericksburg, Virginia. Linda has been a frequent customer at the convenience store where Roxy works for many years. She has always enjoyed her cheerful bubbly personality but was concerned about her health. Linda is a retired nurse and knows that your oral health directly affects your overall health, and she could tell from Roxy’s smile that there was a chance her overall health was in trouble.
Roxy’s smile was in less than stellar shape. She was missing many teeth and the teeth she did have were in bad shape. Linda has been blessed by generous people in her life and she had the means and the heart to help Roxy. Linda believes, “if you can help somebody, give them a hand up, you’ve done your part as a good Christian.” It took a few years for Linda to find the courage, but eventually, she said to Roxy, “You are such a beautiful girl and I never really wanted to say anything, but I worry about your health and about your teeth. I want to help you.”
First Visit – More Smiles
After some time and bouts of tears and disbelief, Linda brought Roxy to see Dr. Lillie Pitman and Dr. Thanos Ntounis. “They made Roxanne feel so welcome,” said Linda. “I’ve been to other dentists but never treated with the kindness and respect these guys have,” continued Roxy. “This is an amazing practice. Very professional, very clean, very patient-oriented and the doctors here are fabulous. This is the cream of the crop.”
Hearing the story, Synergy Periodontics & Implants extended a considerable fee reduction to Roxy. Linda paid the balance to cover the surgery to remove the few decayed and damaged teeth Roxy had left and give her a new smile with full arch dental implants upper and lower. She had her initial surgery with Dr. Pitman earlier this year and left with fixed temporary sets of teeth that look natural.
What’s Next? – More Smiles
Due to the extensive decay and damage in Roxy’s mouth, she has used the last several months healing and allowing the jaw bone and periodontal tissue to heal and regenerate. After everything has healed and the jaws are strong enough, the permanent replacements will be put in place by Dr. Ntounis. Based on Roxy’s latest checkup, her permanent replacements are scheduled to be put in this month, October 2021.
“I kept on looking in the mirror, taking pictures of myself, just because I never did that,” she said. “I would never take any kind of pictures with anybody because I was embarrassed by the way I looked. If I took a picture, I kept my mouth shut, so to be able to take pictures with my kids now and friends, it’s like, oh my God, I just want to smile all the time.”
This amount of kindness and generosity from a stranger is rare and the team at Synergy feels blessed to have been part of this story. Dr. Piman and Dr. Ntounis won’t soon forget their experience with these two amazing women or the effect it has had on them personally.
